Gold ring with amethysts and agates

The collection is inspired by acorn ornaments, depicted on the fresco of David the Builder in Gelati Monastery. The Byzantine royal attire worn by David IV includes a collar, a robe, and a lorum. Red acorn ornaments that embellish the precious fabric of the robe are represented in gold jewelry with a combination of amethyst and agate. Oak had been considered a sacral element since pagan times, and its cult persisted after the conversion of Georgians to Christianity. It was a symbol of invincibility, resilience, and wisdom, making the acorn an apt adornment for the costume of the unifying, powerful king.
